The governor of Tucumán, Juan Manzur, inaugurated a “Youth Point” in Santa Lucía, aimed at combating child labor and providing academic support and daycare for the children of blueberry workers.
Local authorities, legislators, and businessmen were present during the visit. The Youth Point provides academic support and childcare, with computers contributed by businessmen.
The local delegate emphasized the importance of preventing school dropout, while the president of the Blueberry Producers Association highlighted the joint effort to eradicate child labor.
Francisco Estrada, president of the Blueberry Producers Association of Tucumán, mentioned that “this is part of an association policy to prevent and try to eradicate child labor. We coordinate with the municipality and the province to create this center for children’s support. This Youth Point is to support young people with computers so they can study. But it also serves for women working in blueberries and lemons to have someone to leave their children with and not have to choose.”
