In the context of the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor, Argentina takes a firm step towards a fairer and more equitable future by presenting ten concrete commitments under the motto “from commitment to action“. Various government, business, and union organizations come together to prevent and eradicate child and adolescent labor in the country.
Among the initiatives presented, the Argentine Blueberry Committee (ABC) stands out by emphasizing the urgent need for the sector to have a national social compliance system. They propose the voluntary adoption of a specific control, monitoring, and attention program for blueberry production, designed by the producers themselves. This integrated approach aims to effectively address the issue of child labor in blueberry production.
On the other hand, the regional NGO Desarrollo y Autogestión (DYA) takes a significant commitment by implementing monitoring, prevention, and attention systems for child labor in its “PAR” project – Responsible Agricultural Production. This initiative covers blueberry crops in Tucumán and yerba mate in Misiones, promoting a public-private management approach that seeks to comprehensively combat child labor.
